Costs
Overall Costs
Running a championship-caliber athletic department requires an investment of resources.
Across the country, budgets among Power 4 institutions have increased exponentially. The Division of Athletics has been successful in maximizing resources along with enhancing various self-generated revenue streams, including, but not limited to, fundraising and ticket sales. The increase in operating costs from FY25 to FY26 reflects, in large part, the evolving financial landscape of intercollegiate athletics, including costs associated with the House v. NCAA settlement and the implementation of direct institutional NIL payments to student-athletes.

Scholarships
Recent changes in NCAA legislation established roster limits for sports in lieu of scholarship caps. To expand student-athlete opportunities and achieve a more equitable scholarship distribution, UConn added 15 scholarships in FY26. We will continue to examine additional opportunities in support of our ongoing mission to provide an exceptional college experience to the young men and women who wear the Husky uniform.

Accomplishments and Performance
Economic Impact
The University of Connecticut Office of Budget, Planning, and Institutional Research conducted a study to contextualize the value UConn athletics provides to the state economy. Data from FY25 was used for this study.
UConn athletics generates more than $286.9 million in statewide economic output.
- 1,905 jobs are supported by $115.0 million in labor income.
- The Division of Athletics contributes $13.1 million in state and local taxes and $175.1 million to Connecticut's GDP.

Brand Value
The UConn brand is widely recognized nationally and globally, and brings tremendous value to the university. UConn is the only BIG EAST program and among only two non-Power 4 schools to rank in CNBC’s 2025 study of athletic department valuations, which aggregate figures based upon metrics such as donor support, attendance, media exposure and market power. According to Nielsen Television Market Data, UConn ranked as the #1 team in brand value following our men’s basketball back-to-back national championships in 2023 and 2024. Traditional advertising buys cannot replicate the value derived from the tens of millions of TV viewers who watched UConn capture three basketball titles in three consecutive years (men, 2023 and 2024; women, 2025). Often described as the “front porch”, the visibility that Athletics provides has helped the university enjoy significant growth in admission applications, alumni interest and overall fundraising.
Athletic Accomplishments
At UConn, a championship pedigree is in our DNA. Our 21 Division I athletic teams have won 26 national championships and countless conference titles.
UConn is also the only Division I institution to win both the NCAA Division I men’s and women’s basketball championships in the same season, a feat the Huskies have accomplished twice.
During the 2025-26 season, UConn athletics teams won ten BIG EAST Championships, and eleven teams competed in NCAA Tournament action. Both the men’s and women's basketball teams competed in the NCAA Final Four, and the football team won nine games in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history.

Single-Year Academic Progress Rate
In the most recent Academic Progress Rate (APR) data, which measures student-athlete eligibility and retention among NCAA Division I institutions, 10 UConn teams achieved a perfect single-year APR score.
| Year | APR |
| 2024-25 | 991 |
| 2023-24 | 985 |
| 2022-23 | 992 |
The APR is a semester-by-semester calculation of the eligibility and retention of all student-athletes. A score of 1,000 means every student-athlete on that team stayed eligible and returned to school. Schools begin losing points for students who are not eligible and/or are not retained, and the NCAA begins penalizing a school when the score falls under 930.
Graduation Success Rate
UConn also enjoyed a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 91 percent. The GSR represents the percentage of student-athletes who earn their degree within six years of entering college.
| Cohort | GSR |
| 2025 | 91 |
| 2024 | 88 |
| 2023 | 94 |

Mental Health Services
Mental Health is a vital component of athlete health.
UConn’s Student Health and Wellness (SHAW) at UConn is guided by the understanding that mental health exists on a continuum, with resilience and thriving on one end of the spectrum and mental health disorders that disrupt a college athlete’s functioning and performance at the other.
With this in mind, UConn’s Athlete Mental Health Service offers access to a personalized approach that promotes wellbeing and meets the student-athlete’s mental health needs by offering rapid access to solution-focused, student centered treatment using interventions with proven outcomes to meet the diverse needs of our students throughout their college experience.
Three full-time employees are dedicated to the mental health and wellbeing of UConn student-athletes, while additional SHAW employees provide support in the areas of case management and psychiatric medication services.

Sports Medicine
Our medical experts, including the outstanding physicians from UConn Health, work collaboratively to help our student-athletes maximize their performance, prevent injuries, and get back to competition after injury.
Independent medical care refers to an environment in which primary athletics health care providers, defined as the team physician and athletic trainer, make medical decisions for student-athletes free of pressure or influence from non-medical factors. This approach empowers team physicians and athletic trainers to have final decision-making authority regarding the diagnosis, management and return-to-play determinations for student-athlete care without influence exerted by non-medical professionals, such as a coach or director of athletics.

Bailey. The facility will house offices, locker rooms and meeting areas for our women’s field hockey, women’s rowing, women’s tennis, women’s swimming and diving, women’s cross country, and men’s and women’s track and field teams. A multi-purpose indoor training turf and rowing tanks will provide state-of-the-art practice environments. Additionally, there will be dedicated spaces for sports medicine, strength and conditioning, rehabilitation and recovery, hydrotherapy and biomechanical analysis, and nutrition and fueling. This modern ecosystem will house advanced learning technologies, flexible collaboration rooms, and specialized tutoring modules tailored to elevate the educational ambitions of our Huskies. The Naydens’ gift will propel key academic outcomes, including improved graduation success rates, higher grade point averages, enhanced testing capabilities, and early academic intervention programs.
